founders


Peter Clark is a co-founder of ARCA ASSOCIATES and is currently the Managing Associate for ARCA ASSOCIATES International. He has a B.A. in Political Science from Wheaton College, USA, a Masters in Public Policy from Harvard University, and a Ph.D. in Adult Education and Social Science from Cornell University. He has worked as a consultant in over 60 countries for private sector and nonprofit clients, and held several directorial posts with international organizations. He has acted as executive producer on several documentaries and video-based curriculum projects. He enjoys photography, adventure, and all sports.

Lucy Figueroa is a co-founder of ARCA ASSOCIATES and is currently the Coordinator and Manager of ARCA ASSOCIATES Latin America. She has a B.A. in Sociology from Houghton College, USA, and gained a Masters in Non-formal Adult Education from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst as a Kellogg Foundation Fellow. She continues to act as a Senior Consultant for the Kellogg Foundation in Latin America. Lucy has over eighteen years of experience working with various national and international development organizations, and has been involved in a wide variety of curriculum development initiatives - both visual and written. She is also an experienced trainer.

Jo Ann Van Engen has lived for the past 17 years in Honduras with her husband, Kurt Ver Beek and their two children, Anna and Noah. She has a B.A. degree in Sociology from Calvin College and a Masters degree in Human Resource development from Azusa Pacific University. For the past nine years Jo Ann and Kurt have run a semester-long development studies program for Calvin College in Honduras. Jo Ann is very committed to working directly with community people and enjoys writing and developing educational materials for use at the community level. Jo Ann is also a camerawoman and producer and has worked with ARCA on several extended projects.

Roberto Mateu is a trainer and marketing expert with extensive private sector and education experience. He has has served as a marketing director for large international companies, as a training consultant, as a consultant researcher, and as a guest lecturer in numerous forums. Roberto has a degree in marketing from the Universidad Leonardo da Vinci of El Salvador, and a Masters in Business Administration and postgraduate specialization in Business Consulting from the Universidad Tecnologica of El Salvador.

Javier Barrios is a medical doctor with a masters in public health. He has additional professional training and expertise in epidemiology, strategic planning, health management, anthropology, and disaster mitigation and response. He has extensive field experience in community health and rehabilitation/reconstruction project management. He maintains an ongoing professional interest in social communication and organization, public health education, community health, and disaster mitigation. Javier is currently the president of the board of a large health-related nongovernmental organization in Managua, Nicaragua.

Andrew Leake works with indigenous communities in the South American Gran Chaco, with a specific interest in land and resource-use rights and the issue of environmental justice. He has over 12 years work experience with NGO´s in Argentina, Paraguay, and Honduras. He also serves as a consultant for several international organizations. He holds a B.Sc. in Environmental Sciences, a Masters in Rural Social Development from the University of Reading (UK) and a Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences from the University of Hertfordshire (UK). Andrew enjoys flying and holds a private pilots license. He lives in northern Argentina with his wife and family.

Daisy Godoy is a graphic design graduate of the Jose Cecilio del Valle University in Honduras, and has previously worked in both the private and public sector. Daisy has previously led design teams working on large educational campaigns, including a project financed by the World Bank for the Central American region on the preservation of the Meso-American barrier reef, and a promotional campaign for a large Honduran public hospital. Daisy's design philosophy is influenced by a total commitment to having fun on the job to increase creativity.

Marvin Orellana is a graduate of the Technical University of Central America (UNITEC) in Communications and Advertising. He is a video editor, cameraman, photographer, and graphic designer. He is a finalist in National Geographic's 2005 worldwide photo contest, and has worked professionally for the German Government, the United Nations' "Honduras in 24 Hours" photography project, and has recently had many of his photos published in a photo book, "La Reserva del Hombre, y La Biosfera del Rio Platano" depicting the Honduran rainforest.

Margarita Figueroa is a creative artist in the Internet and multimedia sectors. She has many years developing, designing and producing digital experiences for different companies. She has studied art and has a Masters degree in Visual Culture from the Universidad de Barcelona.
